Folkart painters – Together sharing knowledge and friendship!
Here I share some happenings from my visit at the exhibit Swedish Folk painting ”Tradition and Change” at the Swedish Museum in Andersonville, Chicago. The Director Karin Moen Abercrombie standing beside me is a patiently working woman who gives so much of herself. A warm and respectful ”Thank you” from me! And Alison Aune with her sparkling kurbits! An folkartist with a warm and strong personality! In the middel between Alison Aune and the nice and warm Pieper Bloomquist I feel so safe and calm! Two women perfect as fellow exhibitors! And woow, what a feeling to have some one like Pieper Bloomquist to take the speech for the historical part of this exhibition! Whithout Curator Phoebe Yates and her staff Lisa Lillström it probably hadn´t been any exhibition opened September 9th. So important with good communication, and you did it really good! Of course we had to visit Restaurant Svea on the opposite side of the street from the museum. Carol Bender and Pam Rucinski , came driving all way from Wisconsin!! I and Pieper Bloomquist took a break with them. All these three folk artists and scholarship holders has visited me in Sweden for studying old painting techniques. All of them has taking their knowledge to an ambitious level, and share it in holding own classes. The second day at the exhibit I was the leader for a workshop. Here I´m preparing me together with the twelve students. It was a joyful moment for me to share my painting techniques and to make them feel free and to create brush strokes and patterns without pressure. I have got so many talented painting friends in the US, with their ancestors roots from both Sweden and Norway. Some important contacts I havn´t mentioned here I may mention in another post. ”WARM THANKS” to all my contacts that has inspired me holding on to” the spirit and hope” for the possibility to meet each other and share our common interest to convey, encourage and preserve folkpainting for the future! We all, just love Folkart painting! So sometimes the big world becomes so small, when we´re in it all…. together.
